Unlady-like Ella; Norah betrothed

The sequence above portrays Ella at her finest lady-like hour: She wants to dip into her SpongeBob birthday cake with her finger, as she's in the spotlight after the whole party just sang "Happy Birthday" to her. Her daddy tries to stop her (since the whole party will be eating some of this very cake), which only frustrates her. End result: She bawls in front of everyone. The real end result: She gets her way and essentially gets her serving of frosting-on-the-finger (picture not shown, since if I put too many pictures up as one actual image, Blogger decreases the visual size). Everyone still ate the cake afterward anyways!

Ella's belated birthday party went smoothly, for the most part, save for her getting her hand shut on by the front door, getting overly possessive and emotionally upset over all her toys and belongings as every kid rummaged through her toy boxes and picking fights by not sharing. We have now officially entered the Terrible Twos.

The Husband was away on Saturday, meaning it was a Girls Day Out. We went to the local children's museum; Ella's still a tad young to really enjoy it. Afterward we went to the park, where Ella just loves the slide: "Ehyah shie." She just absolutley loves going to the park. In fact, we're going in a little bit as soon as The Husband gets home. I'm going to try to make it to the park with the girls in the mornings at least a few times a week now that I am officially on nights. We need more Girls Only days where we can do anything we want without being rushed by the lone male in our clique here. We had so much fun!

The other picture here is of Norah and her friend Asher (my co-worker-friend Katrina's handsome little boy), who's only two weeks younger -- but much bigger -- at Ella's party. They've got similar personalities: real laid back with a go-with-the-flow demeanor. I think they would make a great couple!

POSITIVE HUSBAND THOUGHT
As part of the paper's special "Brothers in Arms" series looking at the Lao, Hmong and American Veterans Memorial that is being built here, I've been putting together video snippets of Secret War veterans giving their thoughts about the memorial. Being older, these vets speak Hmong. But our readership is mostly English-speaking. Solution: English subtitles. But my Hmong vocab is nowhere near where it should be in order to translate. So who do I volunteer to do the translation? Dr. Honey, who else? And he's done a fine, fine job, which has made our series online that much better. Thank you, Honey! You're so nice!

I think I'm to blame for her wanting to eat the cake. Remember how many times I let her and boys eat at the cakes before anyone else did? (check out my blog pictures) Ooops! I've been trying to brainstorm what to get her. What doesn't she have? I'll figure it out by the time we see you guys next week.
Nora doesn't look so chubby next to the little boy. Check out both their legs! :)

CATHY: You're invited to Norah's wedding. Asher's mom, Katrina, is from St. Charles also!

LAU: Yep, John told his parents that Ella got the eating-cake-with-her-finger technique from her boy cousins in Indy! ... Ella has everything she could possibly want -- except a swingset that we'll buy as soon as we get some grass. Our landscaper is sooooooo slow and shady.

Norah and Asher look so sweet together. Since they're now betrothed, I'd like to know if you and Kate have their colors picked out and where they're registered... :-)

Love your blog!

KATRINA: I'll bring you all the jpgs on a CD! I told John we probably won't have a lawn by the end of summer. He agreed.

CLAUDIA: So nice to (virtually) see you again! Katrina and I decided that we should let the kids decide the wedding details. Mommies can't make ALL the decisions -- although we'd love to!
